Neroli

SunVenus
Also known asOrange Blossom, Bitter Orange BlossomOriginTunisia, Morocco, Sicily

Neroli is the oil distilled from the flowers of the bitter orange tree, named after a seventeenth-century Italian princess of Nerola who wore it to scent her gloves. Tunisia and Morocco produce most of the modern supply. The scent is honeyed, slightly green, citrus-floral, and one of the cleanest natural fragrances in perfumery. Cousin to orange blossom absolute (which is heavier and more indolic), neroli is the brighter, lighter version. By Vedic logic, neroli is Sun and Venus: Sun in its citrus brightness, its association with optimism and clarity, Venus in its floral sweetness, its honeyed softness, its bridal use. Neroli is the most universally flattering citrus-floral in perfumery, neither too sharp nor too sweet. On skin it reads as composed brightness, fresh elegance. Wear it in spring and summer. Pairs with petitgrain, jasmine, and sandalwood.

Neroli questions, answered

What does Neroli smell like?
Neroli is the oil distilled from the flowers of the bitter orange tree, named after a seventeenth-century Italian princess of Nerola who wore it to scent her gloves. Tunisia and Morocco produce most of the modern supply. Neroli, also known as orange blossom and bitter orange blossom, is classified as a citrus note in perfumery and is ruled by Sun and Venus in Vedic astrology. The strongest source material historically comes from Tunisia and Morocco, with traders, attar houses, and modern perfumers across India relying on these origins for their finest neroli oils.
Which Neroli perfumes are best in India?
Two neroli perfumes Vedra recommends for Indian buyers, one at the entry tier and one at the luxury tier. Boond Neroli Attar (₹2,500–3,500) pure bitter orange blossom in the attar tradition. At the luxury end, Tom Ford Neroli Portofino (₹16,000–20,000) neroli, bergamot, cypress, jasmine. The modern neroli benchmark. Both are available through Nykaa, Myntra, Tira Beauty, and Amazon India. Neroli pairs naturally with neroli, lavender, and vetiver, and wears best during spring, summer.
Which zodiac signs match Neroli in Vedic astrology?
Neroli aligns most strongly with Leo, Libra, and Taurus. In Vedic karaka theory, neroli is ruled by Sun and Venus, where the Sun governs (ego, authority, vitality, warmth), and Venus governs (love, beauty, magnetism, sensual pleasure). That energy translates into a fragrance that suits charts emphasising those placements. How long does Neroli last on skin?
Neroli typically lasts thirty minutes to two hours as a top note. As a top note, it is the brightest and most volatile layer of a perfume, designed to make the first impression rather than the lasting one. If you want neroli to read for longer, look for perfumes that pair it with sandalwood, vetiver, or musk, which slow its evaporation. In humid Indian climates, neroli can flash off faster, so a midday refresh is often worth carrying.
