What Vedra is

Vedra is a personalised perfume brand built on a simple premise: the scent that suits you isn't the one trending on your feed, it's the one written into the chart you were born under.

We translate your birth details into a fragrance recommendation grounded in two systems that have studied human nature far longer than the perfume industry has existed: Vedic astrology and classical perfumery. One maps who you are. The other maps how you want to be remembered. Vedra is what happens when you let them speak to each other.

The method

Most perfume discovery in India works one of two ways. You smell something at a mall counter and hope for the best. Or you scroll through a creator's “top 10” and order what worked on someone whose skin, climate, and personality have nothing to do with yours.

Vedra replaces the guesswork with a method.

• 1. Your chart, read properly

  You give us your date, time, and place of birth. We calculate your Vedic birth chart - not just your sun sign, but the four signals that actually shape personal style:

  • ·Venus - your taste, what you find beautiful, how you attract
  • ·Sun - your core identity and the version of you that wants to be seen

• 2. The fragrance families, mapped

  Classical perfumery organises scents into families: citrus, floral, woody, oriental, chypre (SHEEP-ruh), fougère (foo-ZHAIR), and gourmand (goor-MAHN). Each family has a personality. Citrus is bright, social, awake. Woody is grounded, private, considered. Oriental is warm, intimate, deliberate.

  We've spent months mapping the planetary placements in a Vedic chart to these olfactory families. Venus in a fire sign reads differently from Venus in an earth sign. A water-dominant chart wants something the desert version of you would find suffocating. Why astrology, and why now

A fair question. Here's the honest answer.

Astrology, used well, is a language for self-knowledge. It gives you vocabulary for things you already sense about yourself - that you run cold or hot, that you need solitude or company to recharge, that you're drawn to depth or to lightness. Perfume does the same job in a different register. It tells the world, before you've said a word, what kind of person is walking in.

We built Vedra for a reader who is past believing horoscopes predict her week, but still finds her chart describes her uncannily well. Who has tried perfumes she loved on someone else and hated on herself. Who wants the discovery process to mean something.

What Vedra is not

We don't manufacture fragrance. We don't take affiliate commissions on every bottle we recommend - and we'll always tell you when we do. We don't believe your zodiac sign is destiny, or that one perfume is “yours” forever. Your chart is layered, your life is moving, and your scent wardrobe should reflect both.

We're a recommendation engine with a point of view. The point of view is that you deserve better than guesswork.

Built in India, for the Indian wearer

Climate matters. A fragrance that performs beautifully in a Parisian autumn can collapse in Mumbai humidity. We test recommendations against Indian weather, Indian skin chemistry, and Indian availability - what you can actually buy on Myntra, Nykaa, Amazon.in, and at the niche counters in Delhi, Bombay, and Bangalore.

Every perfume in our database is one we've verified is real, in stock, and sold by sources we'd buy from ourselves.

• How do you pronounce Vedra?

  VAY-druh. The name comes from Veda, the Sanskrit word for knowledge.

• Do I need to know my birth time?

  Yes - birth time is what unlocks your Lagna and the precise planetary placements. If you don't know it exactly, we have a fallback method using an approximate time, but the recommendation is sharper with accurate data.

• Is this Western or Vedic astrology?

  Vedic (sidereal). The two systems disagree on which sign your planets fall in, and we've found Vedic gives more accurate results for fragrance matching - likely because the system is built around precise observational astronomy.

• How is this different from a perfume quiz on Sephora?

  Quiz-based recommenders ask what you already like and find more of it. Vedra reads what you'd like if you understood yourself better. The two often disagree, and that's the interesting part.

• Will I get a single perfume recommendation?

  You'll get a curated set, ranked, with notes on each. One perfume can't carry a whole chart - different placements call for different scents in different moods.

• Do you sell perfume directly?

  Not yet. For now, we recommend perfumes you can buy from established retailers in India. We'll always be transparent about where to find them and any affiliate relationships involved.
