Black Pepper

Black pepper is India's gift to the global spice trade. Malabar pepper from Kerala was once worth its weight in gold and drove the Portuguese, Dutch, and English to colonise the Indian coast. In perfumery, pepper appears almost always as a top note, providing a sharp, biting lift in the first few seconds of a fragrance before fading into the heart.
